How / Why It Works

The 250S-166 is a fully automatic, mechanical locking differential. Under normal driving it behaves like an open differential and allows the outside wheel to turn faster than the inside wheel in a corner.

When one wheel loses traction, the No-Spin unit automatically locks both axle shafts together and delivers 100% of the available torque to the wheel that still has grip. Once traction is restored and the wheels again need to rotate at different speeds (as in a turn), the unit ratchets and unlocks so the vehicle can corner without binding.

This positive mechanical lock is what gives the 250S-166 its reputation for maximum traction in dump trucks, vocational, off-road, and high-torque applications. It is a true No-Spin locker — not a limited-slip or soft-locker design.
